My name's Court Demone,
web design ninja,
copy writing machine,
yoga instructor extraordinaire,
pool hall rat,
and I hate writing about myself.
So, to make this less painful, let’s rip off the band-aid real quick.
Here’s a list of things I’m passionate about:
- Clean, Effective and Beautiful Design
- User Experience
- Web Standards, Accessibility & Search Engine Optimization
- Hip Hop
- Writing about whatever passes through my head
- Yoga
Here’s a list of things I can do for you:
- Design really awesome websites using XHTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP
- Write some riveting content for your website that’s sure to reel in clients
- Instruct you through a yoga class
- Make a half-assed attempt at freestyling
- Dance like Cab Calloway
(Okay, that last one might be wishful thinking...)
These words penetrate and surround my entire mindset around the wonderful things I get to do as a career, and I think my work reflects that. But don’t take it from me. You be the judge.
A brief history of Court
I was born and raised (mostly) in Victoria, British Columbia (That’s in Canada) where I still reside today. There I went to school, and went through ridiculous adolescent phases like most. Awkward Nerd. Brash Punk. Dreadlocked Thespian. Surfer Dude. Raver Kid. Somewhere amidst all the angst and insecurity, I found an interest in making stuff on computers.
When I was 18 and fresh out of high school, I applied for a job I was horribly under-qualified for, and got hired because the interviewer and I shared a love for Orson Welles. The job was designing websites for dick pills. No joke. But, seeing how I was now making double what most of my friends were, I put my nose to the grindstone and in 6 months or so I was a skilled web designer.
Sometime around then I became a certified yoga instructor. I’m not gonna lie, the reason I went into it at first was because it seemed to be where the cute girls were, but I couldn't have picked a more brilliant and life changing experience. Not only did it give me that self confidence and security I was searching for in high school, but it has taught me damn near as many things about the world as my Dad has. I thank my lucky stars everyday for finding this practice and having a wondeful body to experience it through.
After making an attempt at post-secondary education, I started working for these Tempest guys and I have to say it's been the best job I've had so far. I get to do a whole wide range of tasks from design, to coding, to article writing, to outreach marketing... I'm certainly kept busy, and I love it! Really enjoying the company so far.
And that brings us more or less up to date! Nowadays I make websites, teach yoga, spend way too much time at the pool hall, and dance in my underwear. It’s a good life.
